  • We are Permanently Closed

After serving Oak Harbor since 2006, I have closed my doors officially. I am still on Whidbey Island, but no longer offering photography services or learning classes on a regular basis. I am only offering Preschool Portraits for Ms. Ashley's Preschool in the spring.

Past clients may be able to purchase digital images from their past sessions if they are still available on my archive drives. Contact me for more info.

If you are a photographer inquiring about the possible purchase of my props and/or backdrops, many of my items are listed on Facebook Marketplace. Feel free to contact me for direct links or to inquire about anything you see in y portraits that you are interested in to see if they are available.

Thank you for trusting me with your family portraits since 2006. I loved working with you all.

    Renee

Mommy Goggles: Exposed

Recently I applied to be added to the registry of Β “Take off Your Mommy Goggles” (takeoffyourmommygoggles.com). Β It was quite intimidating. Why? In order to be added, I needed to fill out an application, submit proof of my “legal operating” business and have my work & pricing reviewed by 3-5 professional photographers to meet the standards.

I WAS APPROVED! πŸ™‚

So, now I am listed in their registry as an approved Professional Photographer that has done “the grunt work and gained valuable skills in a variety of photography and business aspects.”

And it’s true, I have worked hard. I didn’t just pick up a camera and hoped for the best. To this day, I am constantly learning, constantly challenging myself, constantly pushing myself to stand out amongst photographers, both legal and illegal that surround me. Now, don’t get me wrong… we all start somewhere. I wasn’t a “pro” overnight. But I didn’t start charging and call myself a “pro” because a few people told me I took good pictures.

So, this is where “Take off Your Mommy Goggles” comes in. Have you heard that expression? I did – A LOT. When learning the technical side of this business, I had to learn to not look at that cute smile and gorgeous eyes, but look at the image as a whole. Unfortunately, in today’s digital world, “Mommy Goggles” get fogged up and true artistic talent is bypassed for inexpensive & tolerable results.

“Take off Your Mommy Goggles” is for photographers and consumers. You will learn what it really takes, what it really costs and why. You will learn how to spot a true professional and why it’s important to invest your memories on someone who knows what they are doing.

I am proud to be on the registry. I have received wonderful feedback from the developers and look forward to putting their advice into action. So, check out “Take off Your Mommy Goggles“. Find a professional photographer in your area and/or encourage your current photographer to apply to be on the registry.

Jenni - Kansas City Portrait Photographer - Way to go Renee!!!!☺

Heather - Thank you so much, Renee, for your positive comments on the Take Off Your Mommy Goggles site. I can tell from our conversations via email that you care a lot about your business – and your clients are very lucky to have a true Professional Photographer to preserve their memories πŸ™‚

Erica Porter - Congrats, Renee! But I hope that the fact that you were approved is not what makes you feel good as a photographer. You have tons of clients that LOVE and APPRECIATE what you do and the amazing photographer that you are! This is just a nice extra πŸ˜‰ But we all knew that you rock already, hehe!

A T-shirt & Jeans Kind of Girl

Little “R” turned one Β back in December, but it’s never too late to celebrate! She was quite shy and unsure about this whole “picture” thing. But with a little bit of patience and some yummy snacks, she was a perfect little model! We didn’t have any cake to smash, but I happened to have a cake prop on hand to let her play with. We tried a tutu, but she didn’t care for it too much. Thinking it was the feel of the material, I gave her a soft, fluffy petti-skirt. But she didn’t like that either. We were able to get one frame and it’s shown below – a great one! After mom changed her into a dress, we played with props for a little, but then – she was all done. So, we finished up and mom changed her back into her t-shirt & jeans and started packing up to go. That’s when little “R” was as happy as ever. She was talking to me and laughing and smiling. Silly little girl – all she wanted was to get out of those girly clothes! Now we know for next time though. πŸ˜‰

Karen Kulin - Really too cute! Look at her little toes in the second photo. Love it! Another great job.

Simplicity By Christy- Huntsville Newborn Photographer - These are so sweet! She is a beautiful little girl! Great work!

Melissa Rieke - Super cute!! She didn’t know what all the fuss was about! Great images!

Welcome Baby “M”

Baby “M” couldn’t wait any longer and was born about 2 weeks earlier than planned. She visited me at 10 days old and was wide awake for most of the session. She didn’t cry until the end when she was hungry and pretty tired of being the star of the day. Her big sister, “G” did wonderfully, so I had to include her in this sneak peek as well. The whole family will all be coming back in again in a few days to get a few more of them all together. But I didn’t want to make them wait to see what we have so far. Thank you for a wonderful session!

Amber Trimm - She is so adorable! Congratulations! I love the pictures!

Christy B - How adorable. I love her little pot belly.

Erica Porter - I love little chunky babies! Her cheeks are so kissable! Love the one in the little bed! Big sis is a very pretty, photogenic girl, too!

Melissa Rieke - Gorgeous Newborn photography. I love the second image…and the bloomers on the bed…so cute!! Great work.

Jennifer Davidson - Oh my goodness! She is soooooo precious and the pictures are just beautiful! I love them all! Can’t wait to meet her!!!

Saskia Davis - This is so cute, she is adorable congratulations. The pictures are great, i love Renee

Raining on my Parade

I was ready for this new year! I revamped the session plans, added new incentives, changed up my workflow, bought lots of new props and had lots of plans! Then POOF! I’m suddenly at a stand still. Houston, we have a problem.

What’s the problem?

Well, as every military member is quite familiar with: NEW ORDERS

I bet you are thinking, “Hey, when it’s time to transfer, you just got to get up and go – you knew it was time.” But we are NOT due to transfer, we’re NOT up for orders. My husband’s orders may be cut short due to some big changes in his command and because there is nothing available here that is beneficial to his career, we are most likely going to have to move in about a year. But because dates have not been released and we’re waiting for the official word, we are all just standing by. [This affects his entire squadron, not just our little family]

How does this affect YOU, my clients?

At the moment, it will not affect anyone. But to be cautious, I will not be able to schedule any sessions after August of 2012. I know, that seems far away and no big deal. But it is a big deal to families who wanted to be a part of any of my 1st year baby plans. Right now, the current clients on baby plans have nothing to worry about, they are fine. But I will not be able to accept any new babies on a 1st year plan if their 1st birthday falls after August of 2012. I will also not be able to accept any toddler plans. I’m so sorry for this inconvenience.

Because of this, I have decided to add Milestone Sessions. This will allow all those cute little babies to have their milestones captured without mommy and daddy having to worry about an incomplete investment in a baby plan. They are available now, click HERE for more info.

While we wait…

All sessions will continue as regular. I will continue with the plans I have made. When I hear official info, I will be sure to post it immediately here on the blog and through email.

Keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. The last time we moved, my husband & I were newlyweds with no kids, no furniture, no cars and no real possessions. Boy, that’s all changed now.

Blessed Life Photography - Liberty, Missouri Photographer - Your clients are so blessed to have you for another year and a half!

Erica Porter - Oh how frustrating! We are actually due to move in June 2012, so it doesn’t change anything for me, but for your other clients, I’m sure they are bummed! So many of us have pretty much become addicted to your photographs, it will be sad to find someone else. Although wherever you go, I have no doubts that you will be successful!

Melissa Rieke - I can’t imagine being a military wife. You are a strong person! I know your clients are going to enjoy having you around as long as they can! πŸ™‚

Little “L” Turns One!

He was a little shy throughout the session. But during those times when he did open up, we were able to capture his adorable personality! When it came time for cake, he really wasn’t into it. And believe it or not, it’s happened a few times before and it’s one of the first things I tell parents before we start. Some kids get right into it and some prefer to not even touch it. As for little “L”, once mom dug in a little to get to the actual cake itself, he was able to enjoy a few bites. But he didn’t seem to want to get his hands dirty. But of course, that’s ok! (Just meant more cake for the family once they got home. :))

Jenni - Kansas City Portrait Photographer - Too cute! I love the one with his foot up with icing on his toes!

Michelle - What wonderful pictures. He is so sweet looking with the cake and in the bucket.
