Learning Your Camera

I am asked many different questions about cameras, modes, settings, lenses and so on by my family, friends & clients. The questions vary from basic to very complicated. Most of you know that it’s taken me many years of learning and practicing to get me where I am today. And I continue to learn something new daily. This profession is a never-ending learning experience due to the technology always changing. So, as most of you have heard from me when asking me about photography, my first answer always is – LEARN YOUR CAMERA.

And it applies to everyone -the new mom, the proud grandpa and everyone in between and beyond. I will flat out tell you, I am not a teacher. But I do feel confident when speaking about things I know. So after quite a few requests, I have decided to put together a small class all about learning your camera. Because we all use different cameras, I have chosen to split this “Learning Your Camera” class into two – one class will be for point & shoot and the other will be for SLR (interchangeable lenses).

Ever ask yourself these questions?

• What do all these buttons do?
• What do they mean?
• What’s this chart on my screen?
• Where do I find this feature?
• How do I set this feature?
• Why do I need this feature?
• Am I supposed to use the mode with big flower or the lady with the hat?

If you would like to stop using just AUTO and want to see what you and your nifty little camera can do, then this little class is for you. Each class will be small (5 people max), focussing only on the camera. (Lighting will be discussed as it pertains to a mode/setting.) I prefer the class to be small so that we may be able to interact more and everyone can help each other.

You will in NO WAY be a master after a few hours. It takes time – you must practice. But you will leave knowing how your camera works, what the settings mean, how they work together, and how to change your settings to achieve creative images that cater to how you want to photograph your kids, your flowers, your pets or anything else you desire.
